Faculty Expertise

The faculty serving on Instructional Councils are best positioned to provide consistent, expert evaluation of faculty coursework and credentials so as to determine relevance within a specific teaching field. Therefore, Human Resources, Department/Division Chairs, Deans, VPAAs, and other stakeholders must coordinate with the relevant Instructional Councils to determine if the established minimum qualifications are met by candidates for Faculty (Residential, Adjunct, or Dual Enrollment) positions.

Academic

A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with a Master’s degree or higher in any field with a minimum of 3-credits of basic storytelling, such as STO292, The Art of Storytelling.

Description

Minimum of 3-credits of basic storytelling, such as STO292, The Art of Storytelling.

Documented status as a recognized indigenous storyteller.

Rationale

There is only one MA in storytelling available in the nation, and it is an in-person program in Tennessee. Faculty with an MA in any discipline and 3-credits of storytelling are eligible to teach STO.

Storytelling is a traditional art-form and therefore experience is gained in a setting other than secondary or post-secondary teaching.
